Another Monday. I felt like I got a lot done this weekend, but there is always more to do. I just need to stay as organized as possible and I'll be able to conquer that to-do list. In all the classes we watched the Marines Silent Drill - so precise. Then as a contrast we watched Bill Murray in the scene from Stripes and the "razzle dazzle". Thank you Mr. Meester - I wouldn't have thought of that film clip in a million years! Also all classes developed a new seating pattern using colors and letters. It's remarkable how some people haven't moved from their pods yet. Statistically that is really interesting.
In Literature 9 we then used a strategy called "Locked Box". That's a misnomer as the box isn't locked. There were eight clues inside the box all related to Edgar Allan Poe. The students had to figure out how the clues related. They did a great job, and sometimes they "out-thought" me! For examples, there were spectacles inside the box. They came up with "he had a darker vision than most," "he wrote a short story entitled 'Spectacles' . I was so impressed by their thought process. It was great. In first hour we were able to review a few of the vocabulary words, but fifth hour we ran out of time. We'll go over them tomorrow. Everyone is supposed to read the story "Cask of the Amontillado".
In English 10 we had five vocabulary presentations. They are really improving - better visuals, larger font, 7 x 7 - excellent job! We then reviewed the rubric used to evaluate each other for vocal delivery. Finally all were placed in one of three groups for presentation. Group A will be in the old commons, Group B in my room, and Group C in the conference room. Tomorrow the entire class period will be devoted to listening to each other (and at some point ourselves :-( !
In American Government we reviewed the rubric for the presentation on the UN Directive. This is a quiz grade, so hopefully everyone will take seriously the research and division of work. The rest of the class period was working in groups. Presentations on Wednesday.
We're supposed to have some beautiful days. I hope that I can get out and enjoy a few of them. Have a great Monday everyone!
