The last day of March. Where did this month fly to? I swear the older I get the faster time flies!
In Literature 9 we took our reading check over Chapter 6. This is one of my favorite chapters as I love the scene with Mr. Avery and the strip-poker reference. We also took a moment to review the vocabulary for Chapter 6. I took a few moments to read a few portions. It's important to realize that the adults immediately assume the trespasser was a black person, yet we know that it was Jem and the kids (dramatic irony).
In English 10 we reviewed the differences between standard and nonstandard English. We then discussed the differences between formal and informal standard English. In pairs we reviewed the exercise on page 105. For tomorrow everyone is supposed to write down the red rules on page 107-108. Also please complete Exercise 1 and 2. We then got to Romeo's soliloquy. Difficult because of a tornado drill, but we will review the paraphrase (worksheet).
In American Literature we had a short prom meeting, but then got started on Of Mice and Men. We discussed the end of the dream (A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughs) and is a dream "dead". We took our check over Chapter 5, and I also read several portions of this chapter. We discussed how Steinbeck really plays with our perceptions - the beginning of the chapter (imagery) is almost reverent, and then the violent events of the barn contradict that. Read Chapter 6 for Tuesday. We'll review the symbols, motifs and themes on Thursday and take our unit test on Friday.
We didn't have law because of Swing Show rehearsal.
I hope this gloomy weather lets up as it is really affecting my mood. Although we these amazing students it's hard to stay down for long.
