Kids are on the move - district track, golf, art field trip, sociology field trip, working with parents, and a few ill - it seems a lot of people are absent today. The end of the school year is always so tough. Lots of absences.
In Literature 9, we discussed Atticus's closing arguments, the conversation with Mr. Raymond, Calpurnia's appearance, and finally the verdict. Oh, we also took our daily check! We completed the matching on the vocabulary page, and we'll work on the paragraph portion tomorrow. Quiz over Chapters 16-21 tomorrow.
In English 10, we also were reviewing key components to Romeo and Juliet. We tried to summarize Act III in as few of words as possible. Then we reviewed key literary terms. Finally, we ran through a Quizlet that had quotes and other important details. We took our quiz, I distributed the vocabulary, and most had time to read.
In American Literature, we finished up all discussions related to Of Mice and Men. We watched the Schmoop video asking why did George do what he did? We then discussed how this story was a really good example of realism, Steinbeck's style, themes, motifs, and symbols. Whew - we got a lot done! Tomorrow will be our test over the novel.
In Law, we did this fun activity where we acted as either the defendant or the plaintiff. I distributed (yesterday) these scenarios and we stated our positions and then the "jury" deliberated - liable or not liable. The plaintiff has to show cause, injury, and what tort they are suing; the defendant has to defend himself/herself with a proper defense. We deliberated and then I read the actual outcome. It was a great review. I handed out a study guide, and our test is tomorrow.
Good luck to all the track kids as they run in their district meet today. I hope the girls are golfing well and the weather holds off!
