First week down, and boy it was a great one.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the fire and tornado drill procedures. We also discussed the importance of respect - this is my home. Please respect the guests (substitutes) and the belongings. We then reviewed the procedure for the Figurative Language Worksheet. Everyone should try and finish it before returning on Monday. Then we watched an excerpt from Dead Poet's Society and the power of your life. What will your verse be? We then created new groups to analyze the poem by Edgar Lee Masters entitled "George Gray". We will use the CLOSE technique for another poem on Monday.
In American Government we spent the first 15-20 minutes discussing current events. I truly enjoy these discussions. I then explained the procedures for government regarding "flipping". There is a YouTube channel available that they should watch before coming to class on Monday. They will be filling in their guided reading. We will then use class period to use that information. We then created (or began creating) our own personal "states". They had to go through the process of creating their states. I'm anxious to see what comes out of this creative bunch.
What a great day/week. I'm so lucky to be able to work with such amazing young people. Their energy and spirits are infectious. Have a great weekend everyone.
