April...that's just crazy! It's April! Another school year just flew by and I'm scrambling to find out where it went. I think for the most part we're prepared and ready for the end of the year, but there's always so much more I would love to get to...Ah, the heart of a teacher.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the characters by completing a matching activity. It seems like most students have the characters pretty well straightened out in their minds. We then took our check over Chapters 6-10. I haven't looked at the results yet, but everyone seemed to finish quickly, and that's usually a good sign.
In English 10 I returned Act I quizzes and everyone talked in their pods about the correct answers. Then we completed an activity Problems! Problems! Problems! We broke up into groups and each group took one character and identified his/her problem (Romeo, Juliet, Paris, and the Capulets). We then returned to our pods and shared our findings. Act 1 is really the exposition for the rest of the play - setting, characters, and most importantly conflict. We then read and "dissected" the Prologue. This prologue is different because it summarizes the characters feeling for each other and the events (sort of) of Act 1. The Act 1 prologue was really all about the plot line. For tomorrow everyone is to complete a worksheet on appositives and appositive phrases.
In American Government we spent part of the class period on current events. Most were quiet, but there were a few things the piqued our interest. Then we discussed the purpose of Congressional committees. We turned to page 141 and wrote down the three purposes of committees onto our notes. Then each individual chose a committee found in Congress and explored its jurisdiction, how it relates to us in the Midwest, the chairperson, and finally any legislation they are currently dealing with. A Google slide was shared with them and each individual is to put their information (to the best of their ability) on that slide. This will prepare us for Wednesday when we complete an activity assigning bills to a particular committee. Current Events is due next Monday (no class on Friday due to CPR training).
In Law it was all about eye witness testimony. We watched a 60 Minutes episode about a woman who picked the wrong man (twice) out of a line-up. It really brings to light the importance of eye witness testimony as well as the reliability. I provided everyone with two articles surrounding this issue.
Have a great Monday!
