Well, Large Group is essentially in the "can" (to use a film term). It's hard to believe the season went by so quickly. It seems like we were just talking about our categories and coming up with ideas for our films, etc. Great year everyone.
In Literature 9 for the past few days, we've been focusing on the classic short story "The Scarlet Ibis". This is one of my favorite stories. On Thursday (I was gone to a meeting.) Students were given time to work on a vocabulary lesson, and then an opportunity to read the first half of the story. On Friday we finished up "Sweet Potato Pie," and then additional time was given to finish the story. Today we compared the music video "Over You" to the story. Then groups of three worked on reading comprehension questions that reviewed the plot of this classic story.
In English 10 we worked on grammar - specifically kinds of sentences and sentence fragments. We also finished up speeches of introduction on Friday. The students were told to read the chapter on Parliamentary Procedure. Today we went over the five basic principles found in Parli Pro. They were reminded that their notes need to be completed up to the pages dealing with privileged motions.
Last Friday we finished up our discussion of Congressional committees: standing, select, joint, and conference. Not the most exciting thing to discuss, but hey, it's important to the lawmaking process. Today in American Government we started our discussion of Congressional Staff. We talked for a bit about the Library of Congress. Then I presented information regarding caseworkers, administrative assistants, or legislative assistants. Then we worked in groups trying to determine a "zone of influence" for a Congressman or Senator.
In American Literature last week, we focused on Moby Dick. On Thursday they watched a United Streaming video about this classic American novel. They were then given an excerpt of Redburn and asked to read that and answer the questions that accompany it.
I think that catches up from last week. Wow, we were busy. I guess no rest for the wicked (idiom!)
