Well, I'm back. I hate being gone, as then things sometimes seem like lessons stood still. My substitutes always do a great job, but I guess I feel lost sometimes, like I don't know where things went or are going.
In Literature 9 first hour reviewed their six word memoirs with each other. Unfortunately several people forgot to complete their assignments. Then we gave them the rest of the class period to work on their CLOSE. In fifth hour they didn't watch yesterday's biographies, so we had to get that done. Then with the last ten minutes they worked on their CLOSE. So tomorrow 5th hour is going to have to share its six word memoirs.
In English 10 it's kind of the same thing. Two sections are both off. Sixth hour had quite a few speeches left to give, but seventh hour only one. One of the things I'm noticing is that speeches are sounding like they're being read and not spontaneous. We have to be careful with "over-rehearsal". I can't believe as an English teacher I'm saying this, but ti's true. We want to have our speeches sound a little spontaneous, otherwise this isn't speech class, it's composition class.
In American Literature we started out correcting quizzes that were awful! Then we moved on and discussed the excerpt Narrative of a Slave by Frederick Douglass. Tomorrow we have class and we will be completing our vocabulary lesson on Avoidance and taking a check over Frederick Douglass.
In Law we were actually down to one student. Two were ill and one went on a field trip. We're really going to have hustle in order to finish our curriculum. Two of the students that were here received a handout discussing criminal vs. civil - misdemeanor vs. felony. Hopefully we'll see people return and we can get moving forward.
Have a great Thursday!
