I marvel that I can come to school a little down in the dumps, and by the time first period is half over, I feel so much better. Thank you students for keeping me grounded!
In Literature 9 we played a little Kahoot to review the things we've been discussing for the past week. Everyone seems to enjoy this on-line review game. Then we finished up our vocabulary (words - fervid and novel). We also reviewed the words in Expand Your Vocabulary. Then we discussed the differences between connotation and denotation. There was some work done at the SMART board. I also laugh at the stampede to the front of the room when we do SMART activities. (And it doesn't matter if it's a freshmen or a senior.) Finally we started to fill in our story map of the "Lady or the Tiger?".
In English 10 we started class by watching a short film that uses no words but communicates volumes. Then we had four more vocabulary presentations. Everyone is doing a great job. Finally we continued with our Art of Communication Notes (interpersonal vs. intra-personal, large group, small group, two-person, and finally the communication model.) One class had the opportunity to watch what happens when one of the elements is missing. We will watch that video clip tomorrow.
In American Literature we started by getting our reading probe out of the way. Then we worked on distinguishing between primary and secondary sources. Since this upcoming project has a primary source requirement, it's important that we understand the difference. Then we reviewed "Mayflower by the Numbers". We also discussed why there were different facts. It's probably because record keeping wasn't a priority to the colony - survival was key. We will be working on the project tomorrow (and most Fridays.)
It's hard to believe the week went by so quickly, but tomorrow is Friday already. Good luck to the cross country team!
