I feel like I'm slowly getting things organized, but as I look at the mountain of papers on the edge of my desk, on the shelves behind my desk, and those that are stacked by the computer, I'm overwhelmed. I don't know how I'm going to make a dent in any of it!
In Literature 9 we finished up Walter Mitty. We discussed diction and how he used made up words, repetition, and malapropisms to create a very funny story. During fifth hour we did complete our Point of View Workshop. We had a book talk this morning (2nd hour), and those that haven't finished their books are under the gun. We then finished the class period with a quiz over "The Scarlet Ibis" and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." Tomorrow we will finish everything out with a vocabulary lesson. Then on Thursday, we will take our skills test.
In English 10 it was all about the informative speeches. Each class had four speakers. Some are struggling with making time and/or following their outlines. This is a tougher speech because it isn't one you can just "wing" (although a few a trying to). We did work on reviewing the Big Three (two worksheets) while I was filling out their speech evaluation forms. That works so much better as I hate the silence while I type. Weather permitting that test will be on Friday. We should be able to finish up the speeches by Thursday.
In American Literature we had a few book talks as well as time to read. Everyone shared their blackout poetry, and I have to admit I was impressed. Some of the poetry was well written and illustrated. You all rock! We then watched and listened to a break-up song that was accompanied by a break-up letter. Soon we discovered that it was a breakup letter from the American colonies to King George. The third-period class is to label the paragraphs for the format of the Declaration of Independence. For Thursday, listen to celebrities read the Declaration. The link is found on Moodle.
Good luck to the athletes tonight. Have a great Tuesday!
