Welcome back! I have to admit that I really enjoyed my four days off. I visited the Sioux Falls Zoo, enjoyed a wonderful worship experience, and caught up on housework. I know that doesn't sound so exciting, but to strike things off a to-do list is always fun.
In Literature 9 we spent a lot of class time discussing Chapter 16 (people who passed on their way to trial, the fact this was a party atmosphere [or was it], and the conversation between Scout and Jem about mixed children). Then we took our reading check. I reminded everyone that school is not out for the summer and to continuing working hard right up until the end of the year. Too many people are neglecting their reading and their checks and quizzes are showing it. We then reviewed the two vocabulary words for Chapter 16. We have one person who wasn't done - two more and it's a quiz. We'll be reading half of chapter 17 before school tomorrow and the rest on Thursday.
In English 10 we took a moment and caught up on where we are in the play. We worked on our study guide questions for scenes 3-4. We then set up our Shakespearean Insult tournament. This was an impromptu idea on my part, but it seemed like a fun way to get back into the swing of school. We might have to push a little harder at the end of the week, but so be it. For homework, everyone is supposed to research three names from the play and explain whether the name seems to fit the personality.
In American Literature we discussed Edgar Allan Poe. We took a biography check using the notes given last week. We then analyzed items in a locked box to see how they relate to Edgar Allan Poe. Everyone caught on fairly quickly. For Thursday, everyone is supposed to have the "Pit and the Pendulum" read. There is an accompanying quiz.
In Law we began the movie 12 Angry Men. I sent them a link for an article about juries that they should read before coming to class.
It's always nice to have a little break, but it's also great to get back into the swing of things. See everyone tomorrow!
