It has been cold in the building for the past two days, and today was definitely the worst. It's not a good sign when students are walking around with blankets or having to stand next to the stoves in the FACS room.
In Literature 9 we caught up with our vocabulary (whew!). We also defined and discussed "fine folks". It was interesting because we all judge each other on a set of standards - Alexandra by family or inheritance, Jem by education, and Scout by common sense. High School is all about judgement and sometimes that gets frustrating. But that's the nature of the beast - all schools have this. All societies do this. I'm not sure we're ever going to have a society like Atticus - equality for all. We didn't have too much time to complete the impact web, but it will work better anyway when we finish Chapter 24.
In English 10 we completely finished Act III. Poor Juliet - completely alone. We all have solutions for the kids, but the 16th century is so different from modern times. Our quiz is Monday. We also practiced one more time dangling vs. misplaced phrases. I hope we can identify and correct them. More importantly that we don'e write with them in the first place. Our phrases test is next week - probably Thursday.
In American Government we drew for our political party (Nationalists - majority/Federalists - minority) and then we elected the Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader. This is so fun to me. I know - I'm such a nerd. The rest of the class period was basically spent working on our bills. I need time to look over the bills, add my comments and suggestions. The final drafts are due in the hopper at the beginning of class on Monday. Remember to change your title and slide them into the proper location. Committee meetings begin on Monday.
In Law we watched a pretty good video explaining exactly what torts are. The beginning was very helpful, as was the end. You kind of have to slog through the middle. It's only 10 minutes so that's not too bad. We then went through a tort introduction (SMART) activity. Next week we'll work on a packet that will give us a better idea of torts.
Have a great weekend everyone! The last weekend of April - that's crazy.
