Today was a day of assessments. It was kind of by accident on purpose. After 26 years of teaching, I know that once we hit these holiday weeks, it's harder and harder to keep everyone interested. Also athletics and speech is now under way and that draws people's attention even more.
In Literature 9 we took our unit test. Some still need to complete the reading portion of their test. Tomorrow will be pretty much a free day tomorrow due to enrichment day.
In English 10 we took our parts of speech test. With whatever time was remaining, we worked on our Informative Speeches. We reviewed the perimeters regarding the outline, notecards, and power points. Power points are possible (5 frames with no words.) The chosen visual aids must be necessary to support the main points of the speech.
In American Literature we continued to talk about Henry David Thoreau and his nonfiction Walden and "Civil Disobedience". He had such an impact on our culture and society - simplicity movement, environmental consciousness, and land conservation. Such a legacy for a man who died quite early in his life.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are all abundant in our blessings, we just need to look around to see it.
