Today just seemed like it flew by. I'm really enjoying the personalities in my classrooms this year. I realize that for 3/4ths of the school, I had these personalities last year, but for some reason we're just "gelling". It makes coming to work a lot of fun.
In English II we finished our discussion of propaganda techniques. We enjoyed watching political commercials and identifying the propaganda techniques that were being used. There are some fun ones out there. Four additional vocabulary presentations were given. I'm learning a new way to look at vocabulary. Good job! Then we finished our gallery walk out in the hallway. Tomorrow will be a preparation day for our test on Thursday. I'm pretty confidant that we're going to do great on our first unit test.
In American Literature we were introduced to Arthur Miller and The Crucible. What a great play! I know the kids will love it. We went over an anticipation guide. This was a little frustrating as it was such an easy assignment - "+" if you agreed with the statement and a "-" if you didn't. Over 1/3 of the students didn't complete this easy (easy) assignment. It's so hard to take points off of participation for something so simple. Anyway we then were able to watch the first 15 minutes of the play. We will be using Today's Meet as a way to ask questions concerning the movie, which will take us about 5 class periods to complete.
In Literature 9 we finished our expert jigsaw (sharing information) from the excerpt Black Boy. Then we retook our check just so we can get those grades up a bit. I then introduced Maya Angelou, but I had a few problems with the links. I got them straightened out for seventh hour, but we'll have to play catch up in fifth hour tomorrow. I then introduced the story. For tomorrow they are to read the story and take down ten important details to the story.
All in all, a very productive day! Go Mustangs!
