Today just seemed to fly by. I shouldn't be surprised because right now I'm teaching some of my favorite lessons in literature.
In Literature 9 we discussed the character called "Maycomb". If Maycomb was an actual person, what kind of personality would he/she have. We decided his/her personality traits by looking at the people who passed the Finsh's home on the way to the trial. It was an interesting comparison. Then we discussed the idea of the "party-atmosphere" and the trial. Finally we took a check over Chapter 16. Rather than read the next chapter tomorrow, I assigned a review crossword puzzle.
In English 10 we finished reading Act III, Scene 1 (second hour). Then we completed a comparison graph for scene I from Act I and Act III. Then we took a check over Act III, Scene 1. So many were gone that there will be a lot that will need to make them up when they return from FFA and being sick. In fifth hour we then moved on and began to analyze Juliet's soliloquy. We will compare it to her balcony soliloquy.
In American Literature we continued to work on our Emily Dickinson poetry. We discussed the themes found in her poems related to individualism and success. We also talked about the acceptance that she had of death. We will read the last few poems and then move onto Walt Whitman.
In Law we started class with a Pick 12 Jury Game. This games asks the students to act on behalf of the attorneys (the girls were the prosecution and the boys were defendants). Choose the best jury according to their purposes. The girls won by two points. We then briefly got started with a Death Penalty portion of our unit. We took a death penalty quiz and did very poorly - showing us that we really don't know much about this controversial topic.
Have a great Tuesday!
