A lot of people were gone today - FFA National Convention or the ACT prep class - but we plugged on without you, but we missed your presence.
In Literature 9 we finished up the Characterization Workshop. We compared Otto and Liam O'Grady in a Venn Diagram. If you were gone, you might want to get those from a classmate. We then read page 79 aloud and looked for positive words, phrases, and descriptions of Saki (Hector Hugh Munro). We also compared his life with Edgar Allan Poe. Unfortunately, they have A LOT in common - tragic childhoods, mothers dying, wrote primarily short stories, enjoyed horror type stories, inserted forms of irony in their stories, and had a tragic death. We then started but didn't finish, a discussion on the cause and effect structure of "The Interlopers". For homework, work on a crossword puzzle review for this short story unit.
In English 10, we reviewed what our resonators (mouth, sinuses, and nasal cavities) and our articulators (tongue, palate, jaw, teeth) are. We then completed the reverse side of the nonessential/essential clauses worksheet. We then had a little fun, but at the same time practicing inflection and articulation, speaking sentences that emphasized different words. We also repeated a few tongue twisters. For homework, everyone is supposed to have their two-minute selections from their independent reading book selected. Two minutes is probably about three pages.
In American Government, we also had a little fun with Rock, Paper, Scissors Economics. We quickly realized why capitalism works and communism stinks - especially if you have to give up your candy to someone who lost the game. We then took a few notes on capitalism. I distributed a note-taking graphic that some of you might need to pick up, especially those that were in the ACT prep class. At the conclusion of the class, I shared an assignment that is on Google Drive - Rags to Riches. I explained the perimeters fo the assignment (which is on the directions form). It is due one week from today - November 1, 2017.
A lot of laughing was heard in room 111, just the kind of day I enjoy.
