It started out so sunny, but by the end of the day, it was dreary once again. I'm really ready for a few days of sunshine. I was so happy to see the number of pages read these past four weeks. As a school (9-11), we've read 26,265 pages. The freshmen (29) are leading with 10,100 pages, the juniors (40) are next with 8,889 pages, and the sophomores (29) are doing great with 7,276 pages. I then shared with most of the classes that reading builds white matter - the slimy stuff that connects our gray matter together. We've definitely been building some white matter!
In Literature 9 we watched our mannequin challenge video. It was fun to see the four vignettes in the challenge. We then discussed the personality traits shared by the various protagonists in the story. We agreed that they showed courage, calmness under pressure (fortitude), and perseverance. That led to a discussion about our upcoming perseverance project and their assignment. They should design a T-shirt related to perseverance. They can use Google slides to include color and fonts. I set up a Google folder (shared) for them to upload or create their T-shirt design. The top five designs will be posted and voted on, and the winning one will be made by KD Designs. We then reviewed the vocabulary related to "The Leap." We will be completing a vocabulary lesson for it tomorrow. For homework, design that T-shirt.
In English 10 we started our vocabulary presentations. We managed to get through four of them. Hopefully, we can get through all the words this week. Then we tried to finish the stations, but because of time, we struggled. Our Art of Communication unit test will be this week, so we started, in our bellringer, reviewing the key information. For homework, take the "fake news" test. The link is on Moodle with a journal question underneath. I did horribly! I really thought I could identify fake news better than I did.
In American Government, we began our unit on developed, developing, and underdeveloped countries. We took notes on Globalization using Crash Course. We got through one of the videos discussing poverty line (thresh hold), wealth, sustainability, and the effects (both positive and negative) of globalization. For homework watch the video on Democracy. Also, current events are due next Wednesday. It will be our last current events for this quarter.
My husband has been gone for the past four days, and he returns tonight. I'm anxious to see him. I hope everyone has a great Monday!
