I've just enjoyed the discussions I've had with students throughout today. They've been funny (English 10 - 5th hour), heartfelt (1st hour with "Into Thin Air") and controversial (government classes). It's so fun to listen to different perspectives.
In Literature 9 we listened to another person's perspective on the disaster on Mount Everest. We read one person's account and then we watched the doctor's account of the tragedy. It's so eye-opening. In first hour we also had time to review the vocabulary words, but unfortunately in eighth hour a presentation in the gym prevented that from happening.
In English 10 we finished up (or got close to finishing) Motivational Speeches. On the one hand, they went really well, but on the other hand, some really struggled. The struggles come from lack of preparation! I can see that with the empty outlines. Eighty-percent of speech is about the preparation BEFORE anyone walk up to the front.
In American Government we finished our discussion of Chapter 8-1 (other requirements, implied responsibilities, the Vice-President). Then everyone was given a worksheet on "How does my candidate measure up?" All research and work is due on Wednesday. Those that are going to the KSFY field trip need to be sure to get their quiz made up ahead of time.
In Law we took our first test. I'm sure everyone did fine; their review was great. I hope they did well.
I hope everyone enjoys their three day week-end. I get to see my grandchildren, so I know it will be wonderful!
