What a great day! I sounds pretty improbable but in-service was empowering. I've sat through in-services for nearly thirty years, and some have been real duds. This year we had open discussion, were allowed to make our own decisions, choose our own group members, and plan strategies to make our educational passions a priority. I've always loved to read. One of the most disappointing aspects of my job as a literature/English/drama/government teacher is that I don't have time to read. All I want to do during the summer is have time to read. With this year's professional learning committee, we are given the chance to implement that passion. And I'm excited. Now it won't be just one person swimming upstream, but holding hands we're going to try and get it accomplished together. This is really exciting.
Now reality is setting in. School starts on Tuesday. Heavens!!! SCHOOL STARTS ON TUESDAY!!! I want to be the change I know needs to happen in education. But I also know that once school starts things get going and old habits return. I'm a good teacher, but I can also be guilty of teaching the same way every year. I want to be "different"; I want to take what I do well, and make it better. So that's my mantra this year (according to Aaron Schmidt as well)...Let's make it better!
See you TUESDAY!!!
