Still riding the struggle bus! I hope that I can get off before tomorrow's district tournament. I would give anything for just one more (o.k. - two more) practice(s). I really feel like I let the team(s) down.
In Literature 9 we worked on our nonfiction notes (we added historical narrative and inauguration address). Then we listened to a recording of President Lincoln's second inaugural address. We watched a quick story by CBS outlining the importance of inaugural addresses. We returned to our nonfiction notes and took a few notes on what we can do if things are difficult to read. First, we need to identify the vocabulary that we're unfamiliar with; then we need to look at the headings. Third, we should read any summary that is available, but probably the most important step is we need to interact with the text - highlight it, take notes in the margin. The more we interact with the text, the more we will understand. For Monday, everyone should interact with the address. Have a conversation with it - highlight, write notes in the margin.
In American Government, we started out with our last reading probe. We discussed our current events. I apologize that I didn't realize that two were open. I'm not even sure how that happened. Don't worry, I'll figure out where you're assignment is. I just hope everyone found mine. Then we returned to our discussion on federalism and shared the answers to our worksheet. The delegated powers of the federal government are divided into 17 specific responsibilities. All other activities and duties must be connected to those 17. We didn't get to limited government, but that will be a great place to start on Monday.
In English 10, we really didn't have class as we moved to the gym for homecoming games. Everyone's outline is supposed to be shared with me in the Google folder I sent out.
In Law we discussed negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. We participated in a simulation that requires someone to act as a mediator. This is always a fun activity. We will move onto the judicial branch and learn how our judicial system works.
Have a great weekend everyone. Good luck to the basketball, wrestling, and speech kids. It's one busy weekend.
