Tonight is the retirement party for some veteran teachers and staff here at GLR. It's going to be difficult to not see their faces every day in the hallways and in my classroom. Some of them are my dearest friends. Good luck and enjoy this next stage of life.
In Literature 9, we started class by discussing the various references connected to character names - Atticus, Jem, Scout, Calpurnia, and Arthur. Then I read Chapter 15 to the class. Tomorrow will be the quiz over Chapters 11-15. I just feel sometimes that we're racing through this book without the usual care I give it. I'm going to sit down and sketch out our reading and hope I can slow it down a bit.
In English 10, we started class with some fun Shakespearean insult "fencing". Those who challenged took a glove and to the front of the room exchanged some interesting insults. Then we reviewed some literary devices like an oxymoron, juxtaposition, and dramatic irony. Then we used Quizlet to review Act II information. It seemed like we were right on, so we took our Act II quiz. I distributed the vocabulary for Act III, and we will begin that act tomorrow. Read for 10 minutes.
In American Government, I gave everyone an extra day to get the video notes on "How a Bill Becomes a Law" completed. There were actually two videos, but some just thought to watch the one. I should have made that clearer. We watched a video on "Crash Course" that discussed Congressional Committees. We stopped it along the way taking notes. We then assigned some bills to committee so we could see that committees were really just organized by topics. For Friday, watch the video entitled "The Civil Rights Act of 1964" and take notes on the reverse side of the packet I distributed today.
In Law, we finished our discussion of negligence, comparative vs. contributory, strict liability, and reasonable person standard. We played a game of BINGO to review the names. We started to discuss the case of the spilled coffee, but we didn't get too far. We'll save that for tomorrow. Tomorrow you have a quiz over the packet on torts.
Have a great Wednesday!
