December! DECEMBER! Oh how time flies when you're having fun...and I'm having a blast this year.
In Literature 9 we finished our discussion of "Son from America". We finished our story detective adding information in the plot (one sentence competition!), theme, voice, and mood. We then took a few minutes and reviewed the Expand the Vocabulary words. Some of them are so easy they really shouldn't even be there. At the end of the class period we took a check over the reading. I'm sure everyone did wonderfully.
In English 10 we started class looking at adverbial prepositional phrases. This is a tough concept, but we'll get there. Understanding how our language is structured will help us with our speaking and writing grammar. Then we did an exercise on evaluating websites. Our mythical purpose was a speech convincing our audience that we should travel to a particular country. Then we looked at the information the three websites would offer. The first was great, the second a big NO! and the third was a great website, but did not meet the needs of the purpose.
In American Government we took quite a few notes on the Constitutional Convention. We took notes on the key agreements they made before they even began to debate. We discussed the foundation they laid before considering any of the plans offered for debate. Then we ended class with a game involving two dice, large and small paper clips, an envelop and six minutes. Oh the games we created. All that was done to prove the point that when the Founding Fathers arrived in Philadelphia there were no rules, rules could change, they divided the resources, and they had to compromise. It was a good parallel (I think).
Good luck to both the wrestlers and the basketball players. A busy Thursday night for everyone!
