I overslept this morning, so I should feel a little rattled, but to be honest, today has gone really well.
In Literature 9 we really analyzed the story "The Pedestrian". We filled out the story detective and also answered a few questions on the reverse side - similes, metaphors, descriptions, etc. We spent quite a bit of time discussing "nonconformity" and Leonard Mead. He was a single man who loved to walk. Doesn't sound very dangerous to me, but to the society he lived in, it meant some time spent in a psychiatric ward. People are so scared by nonconformity, but isn't that what makes each of us special?
In English 10 we reviewed the eight vocabulary words, and then I introduced the next four. I finish up the final three tomorrow and on Thursday we will have a little time to review, so we're ready for our test on Friday. This should be an easier test than the last one as these words don't have subtle similarities. We then heard four (and five) tour speeches. Everyone is doing so well. The transitions and organization is phenomenal. I am truly impressed.
In American Literature I reviewed the vocabulary words for Lesson #4 (Thoughts and Judgments). This is a tough lesson with some unusual words. Then we looked at Crisis Paper #1 by Thomas Paine. We discussed (I lectured) about his life and the place that the Crisis Paper played in the Battle of Trenton. We then analyzed and highlighted it for rhetorical devices. I then introduced the Challenger Speech by President Reagan. We had time to watch this historical address, and for Thursday there should be some analysis completed.
Today has been a bitter cold day. Sitting at my desk, I can feel the cold seep through the windows. Stay warm everyone!
