I'm up really early this morning. I thought I would get a headstart on my long list of things to do. I spoke at the IHSSA convention, and it was quite the honor. I enjoyed reconnecting with the coaches I've come to love over the 20+ years I've been coaching, and I truly loved meeting the new coaches. They (the new coaches) have no idea how much fun and frustration they are in for. Ms. Klaahsen and I have some great ideas for the upcoming seasons.
In Literature 9 we finished our nonfiction unit. After grading the tests, there was definitely some learning going on. The notebook grades were o.k., but maybe a little more effort could be made on finishing our daily homework assignments. We started our next unit Drama. I always love teaching this unit as I get to share things that I don't feel students normally aren't exposed to. We began the unit watching some clips of various theater styles - Wicked, Stomp, and War Horse.
In English 10, we finished our unit on Vocal Personality. We started working on our Defined Stem project - creating a 45-60 second promo of George-Little Rock High School. Combining the propaganda techniques and a strong vocal personality, along with the creativity of you sophomores, and I know we're going to see some amazing projects.
In American Literature we finished up our first quarter novel project. I was very impressed with most students. They read their books and presented their summaries in a creative way. I'm looking forward to seeing what they plan to read for the quarter on nonfiction. We continued with reading a modern essay for the rhetorical devices studied.
In American Government we continuing with our study of the Constitutional Convention and the Founding Fathers. They demonstrated the ability to compromise and keep a clear objective in mind. Definitely skills that our present government need to practice.
