I realize that this was a four day week, but man, it flew by! I know that I'm getting into the rhythm of things, are you?
After our ten minutes of reading, Literature 9 watched a short video on a young Malawian man who built a windmill because he saw a picture of one in a book. He then took this knowledge and changed his family's life forever. It's one of my favorite stories, and it really reminds us of the power of knowledge. We tried (in 2nd hour) to get organized digitally, but things weren't cooperating. Because of the time spent there, we weren't able to get to our reading probe. In fifth hour we did manage to get that probe done. We then reviewed the concept of poetic justice. I introduced the story "The Lady or the Tiger?" and two of the vocabulary words. For homework tomorrow, everyone is supposed to read this classic short story.
Again we read for ten minutes in English 10, then we discussed for some time the power of meaningful conversation and what needs to be present for a meaningful conversation to occur. We took our reading probe here, and tomorrow we will clean up our G-drives. We then took our reading probe. We started a conversation related to the "Art of Communication," and we watched some interesting examples of when communication breaks down. For tomorrow everyone is supposed to watch the ten-minute video and take appropriate notes.
In American Literature we have to get into the habit of reading for our ten minutes. Unfortunately, there are several students who still haven't even picked out a book! We then updated our notebooks with a coversheet and reviewing the syllabus. Taking the information we researched we discussed the characteristics that we believe make up an American. For Tuesday there is an article (the link is on Moodle) that everyone is supposed to read, fill out the notes, and complete the discussion questions.
I hope everyone goes to the game to support the girls. Wear your "batman" outfits!
