What a day! We went from To Kill a Mockingbird to a witness activity to committees in the House of Representative to Romeo and Juliet. Believe me, I'm the definition of multi-tasking! In both English 10 and Literature 9 we determined a new seating chart. It should have been done earlier in the week, but hey, at least we have some clues to Spring! (How I determined seating.)
In Literature 9 we worked on our idioms. It's crazy how hard it is to describe something that is indescribable. We will be returning to Alabama idioms as we travel through the novel. In groups we then worked on the discussion questions #8-11. We will finish the ones about the lady and gentleman later. Then we started to discuss themes, motifs, and symbols. Unfortunately we couldn't get everything done, so we'll have to pick it up tomorrow (5th hour) and Monday (1st hour).
In English 10 it was all about a rose, a name, and a love. We are reading and unpacking the language of Act II, Scene ii in Romeo and Juliet. I love walking around in the auditorium and listening to kids read and paraphrase. I think we're getting better and better at understanding Shakespeare's style. Everyone is supposed to paraphrase Juliet's speech (pg. 31 in the Redbook).
In American Government Mr. Range came in to talk about CPR training and the tests Seniors will be taking across the next two days. We then watched Crash Course's description of Congressional Committees. Then in two groups, they were to use their Google Presentation and their packet and assign bills to the proper committee. They quickly realize that this wasn't brain surgery and the most obvious choice was probably the right choice.
In Law we worked the entire class period working out the intricacies of our witness activity. The class really came up with some great ideas. We're going to work on a slide show for Monday, line up the "players" and hopefully conduct our experiment on Monday.
All in all a wonderful day! Spring is definitely in the air!
