I had to open the windows slightly today. It is a wonderful feeling to know that spring is right around the corner. I know that as soon as I say that a storm will hit, but I also know that the severity and length of it will be short.
In Literature 9 we finished up Anne Murrow Lindberg's essay "Sayonara". I really like this as a kick-off to rhetorical devices. We reviewed the terms: anaphora, parallelism, analogy, and juxtaposition. We also took our reading check over the story. Then it was onto Expand Your Vocabulary. We finished those up, and we had just enough time to discuss our homework. I distributed the speech "A New Generation of Americans". This handout was color-coded and the assignment is to develop the key. Have this done for tomorrow's class.
In English 10 we finished up our rants - and there were some good ones. They weren't always organized, and many people were well under time, but you definitely had some issues to get off of your chest. We then discussed our upcoming project - panel discussions. Everyone was to provide a possible topic for panel discussions and a google form would be sent to you Tomorrow you will be placed in panels and start the research process.
In American Government, we started with finishing our project "You Be the Judge". We had some good conversation as we went through the various cases. Then everyone was to take a Bill of Rights Check that was found on Moodle. For Friday, have your current events completed. For Monday, there is a Bill of Rights Scavenger Hunt to complete - it comes complete with a look at artwork and the Bill of Rights.
In Law, we almost finished our criminal defenses. We discussed duty, violation of duty - the defense would be "I didn't do it!". We would then look at alibis, evidence collection, and other evidence. Next would by duty, violation of duty, and intent. Criminal defenses to this might be intoxication, involuntary intoxication, sleepwalking, and infancy. Next would be the justification defenses. This would be a duty, violation of duty, intent, and liability, but I was justified in committing the crime. This could be self-defense, defense of others, defense of home, and defense of property. It could also relate to necessity and prevention of a crime. Finally, there are defenses related to an "excuse" - I did it, but here's my excuse. These could include duress, mistake of fact, mistake of law, consent, and entrapment. For tomorrow, we will finally share our articles that relate to a violation of criminal procedure.
