I haven't posted for a few days because time just gets away from me. So this Sunday evening I'm sitting here trying to get completely caught up. This daunting task will obviously not happen, but hey - think big or go home.
In Literature 9 we finished up our discussion of "Cask of the Amontillado" and "The Interlopers" I love discussing these two stories. I waver a bit, but I think "The Interlopers" is my favorite story from this unit. I do look forward to the next unit as it contains my favorite story. We did a few vocabulary lessons and reading checks. The weather hasn't been very cooperative so the unit test will be next week.
In English 10 we're still working on finishing up the persuasive speeches. I know that the students are anxious for them to be done, and to be honest, so am I. It seems like it makes the week drag a bit. I wish there was some way to present speeches without taking weeks to get them done. This week we'll finish the speeches and then concentrate on subject complements and direct/indirect objects. We'll also finish our Mythology vocabulary.
In American Literature we're reviewing my absolute all-time favorite novel. I can't say I necessarily love reading the novel The Scarlet Letter, but I L-O-V-E teaching it. We discussed the "crime" of Hester Prynne and her relationship with Roger Chillingworth and Arthur Dimmesdale. This is a great time for students to work on their power point presentation on their authors.
In American Government we worked on comparing the House of Representatives and Senate, their leaders, and their responsibilities. Understanding how each of them are similar and different really help with the understanding of government.
In Law we're talking about the four sources of law - the Constitution, statue (criminal and civil), administrative law, and case law. We've done a few activities, but mostly the discussion has furthered our understanding of law. I truly enjoy the four students that enjoy the discussion.
