Participation
Arriving to class prepared and ready for class will earn a student for 5 points per day. Points are also awarded for positive participation, volunteering for SMART board activities, cooperative activities, and overall discussion. Points will be deducted for missing homework, not having your materials (books, pencil, paper, etc.) for class, off-task behavior, etc. will cause points to be deducted. Participation account for 15% of your grade. Extra Credit is averaged into participation; after all if you're completing the extra credit, you're participating in the class.
Daily Work
Daily work consists of homework, guided readings, unannounced reading checks, vocabulary checks, etc. Vocabulary reviews (SMART board activities), out of class assignments, parts of speech worksheets, skill the drill activities, Google assignments, etc. would fall under this category. These assignments would encompass one daily objective.
Assessments
These assignments would include quizzes and projects that you as a student had time to prepare. They would encompass several objectives and concepts studied.
Assessments also include unit tests, essays, and larger projects. My tests are often quite long and extensive. It's not uncommon for my upper level classes to have one test or possible two a quarter. Since assessments (tests and/or projects) have such a tremendous impact on grades, it's important to study and prepare for them days in advance - not simply hours.
Late Policy: For the most part, Mrs. Sandbulte does not accept late work if there has been adequate time to complete the assignment. If for some reason your work is late, ten points will be deducted for every day past the original due date. Projects that were given weeks to complete with a definite due date will not be allowed to be turned in late. Examples of those assignments include papers, American Literature resumes, American Government projects, etc.
Extra Credit: Mrs. Sandbulte provides numerous opportunities to reward curiosity. Some refer to this as extra-credit. Mrs. Sandbulte doesn't necessary believe in giving someone EXTRA work when she feels she gives enough work as it is. However, Mrs. Sandbulte does recognize the value of healthy curiosity. Posted to her Google Classroom are numerous opportunities to encourage knowledge. A total of three points per week will be rewarded to the student(s) who displays a healthy curiosity. Those points can accumulate to 27+ points per nine weeks. The student will receive one point for an attempt. Also a student who is active in their own learning will earn extra credit points in the area of participation.
