What a day! I rarely forget to post to the web, but yesterday things got away from me and I realized that I completely forgot to summarize the day. I hope I can remember (after all it's only one day - how bad could my memory be?)
In Literature 9 we read for our ten minutes. By the way that is going so well! Then we discussed the symbolism found in "The Scarlet Ibis". Between the ibis itself, the storm, the lightning, and the nettles (cockleburrs), the author infused a lot of symbolism. We then returned to the worksheet CLOSE and reviewed some of the key components to the story. Tomorrow we will take a check and begin to read one of my favorite stories "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." Please have the vocabulary done for this funny story.
In English 10 we managed to only meet in sixth hour. Seventh hour worked on their Genius Week projects. In sixth hour we had four vocabulary presentations and reviewed the key components to an introduction. The rest of the class period was used to work on the outline. For homework, everyone is to complete both sides of a comma worksheet. Our comma test will be on Thursday and our Big Three (capitalization, end punctuation, and commas) will be our semester test next week. Don't forget your notebooks will be collected at some point.
In American Government, we had one of my favorite lessons - the Constitutional Convention Dinner Party. First, we ate! Then we mingled finding out as much information as possible about our fellow delegates. I think next year I won't hand out the papers, but simply let people mingle and learn about each other. Then hand out the papers. The reason I say this is I think people get so caught up in finding signatures, they miss the point of the activity. We managed to review the paper and circle the key statements. Everyone did a great job. Don't forget to start (and complete) your Constitution test!
I hope you had a great Monday, and now let's look forward to a wonderful Tuesday.
