Man, that was a fast week...then again, we only had school for three days. These final weeks are just going to fly by.
In Literature 9, we finished reading Chapter 1 together. We discussed how the allusion we have nothing to fear, but fear itself is a reference that helps us place the time period of the book (1932). Everyone did a wonderful job with vocabulary. I was sure you were going to have several students not complete the vocabulary, but you only had one. I owe my husband a box of popcorn! We discussed which facts we would jot down in our Chapter Summaries. For Monday, complete the front side of the worksheet. We will take our check on Monday over Chapter 1, and then get into a rhythm of reading.
In English 10 we had several students gone for Swing Show set-up. It was great to see those that came in and made up their work. We took our check over Shakespeare Scavenger Hunt. We then went on to finish our Elizabethan Era notes (Shakespeare's world). Those of you gone should have received an email with a YouTube link. For Monday, just simply get some reading done.
In American Literature, we began to work with Martin Luther King's "Nonviolent Resistance." First, we reviewed where we've been: we started with the athletes at the 1960's Olympics, then we went back in time and discussed Transcendentalism and Ralph Waldo Emerson. That led to Henry David Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" and our silent discussion. Everyone was supposed to watch the Crash Course video on nonviolent resistance (it was about 11 minutes long and the link is on Moodle). And that's how we got here. We watched a short video on Selma and the 50th Anniversary MLK's assassination. Now for today's activity: You all were placed into groups. As a group you will create, using the primary documents provided, your own textbook on "Civil Disobedience." Using MLK's essay, what pieces of literature (the segregation laws and the letter from the white pastors) would you include if you were to write your own textbook? I also provided eight photographs - you won't use them all, but which ones would you use. Your team will want to include all the elements of a textbook: exploratory questions, section title and subheadings, vocabulary, end of the second questions, and illustrations with captions. You will have today and Tuesday to work on it. We don't meet very often due to ITED's, the 60's project, and other scheduling conflicts. Therefore, it's important that you do your reading as that is the only true grade you'll receive for the next several weeks.
In Law, we played a little go-fish. Once we figured out the game, it went smoothly. We will definitely play again. During the last twenty minutes, we took our quiz.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I have a new granddaughter coming, so I'll be on pins and needles all weekend.
