It seems everyone was dragging a bit today. Maybe I needed to plan a little more active activities today, but regardless it seemed like we all could have used a few more hours of sleep. Hopefully we can find some energy for this short four-day week.
In Literature 9 we took our check and discussed Chapter 3. This chapter allows us a glimpse into the Ewell family (chapter 2 was a look at the Cunningham's). We did take a few minutes and compare these two poor families. We also discussed Calpurnia's disciplining Scout. The theme of the novel is introduced in this chapter - You never really know a person until you walk around in their skin. We will be watching this motif for the rest of the book.
In English 10 we finished Act I, Scene 1. We are finally introduced to one of the two title bearing names - Romeo. We see that he is a love-sick boy who can't get what he wants from a girl he supposedly loves. We also worked on gerunds and will continue with that tomorrow.
In American Government we watched a video (Crash Course's video on Congressional Leadership). We discussed the leadership in the House and Senate, finished with those House of Representative cards, and then began a broken squares activity. These squares are made up of four triangles that will make a square which refers to one of the leadership positions in the House or Senate. Current Events are due on Wednesday.
In Law we got close to finishing our criminal packet. We talked about kidnapping versus false imprisonment. Ironically we have a national story right now about a teacher who kidnapped a 15 year old. We also discussed the various crimes against property - larceny, embezzlement, robbery, and false pretenses. We'll finish the rest of the crimes tomorrow.
I hope everyone can enjoy the slower pace of fourth quarter. I know that it makes a world of difference for me.
