It's so hard to get into the swing of things after a four-day weekend. With All-State and speech practices thrown in, I guess I feel like I didn't get a break at all. All classes watched a wonderful motivational film entitled "Life" (but I think the title 79 is better).
In Literature 9 we started with notes on persuasion - what it is, what are the rhetorical devices (juxtaposition, anaphora, parallelism, and rhetorical questions) - and then we began to apply them to the Gettysburg Address. We will finish that up tomorrow.
In English 10 we had one more motivational speech to go. Then we reviewed participle phrases. It seems like we're still struggling in that department, so we'll stick to that for awhile yet. Then I began to explain our pro/con speeches (partner) speeches. Partners will be assigned and topics chosen tomorrow. Persuasive Test is on Thursday.
In American Literature we created a list of civil disobedience options (sit-ins, boycotts, marches, petitions, rallies, arm bands, etc.) Then we compared Thoreau and Martin Luther King's addresses regarding civil disobedience and passive resistance. We will finish up Thoreau this week (Walden) along with the vocabulary lesson. Next week will be a few tests over the material.
In Law we worked on mediation and arbitration. We did a fun simulation with Chris and Sam. I hope at the end of this exercise we understand the importance of mediation and arbitration.
Have a great Tuesday everyone and good luck to the boys tonight!
