The wind is absolutely howling! I've looked out twice expecting to see snow flying. I know bite my tongue...it's April, and it's only the wind.
In Literature 9 we discussed Christmas at the Finch's. What a family! To be honest though, it's not that different from mine. We took our reading check, then we discussed the chapter and read the conversation between Jack and Atticus (Scout is sitting on the stairs). We didn't have time to review the vocabulary for Chapter 10, but we'll be finishing that up tomorrow.
In English 10 we spent quite a bit of time differentiating between similes, metaphors, and personification. We added the word hyperbole, alliteration, and symbolism to our toolbox of figurative language terms. Then we reviewed the questions found on our Act II Study Guide. Check time over the scene. We need to work a little more on our subject/verb agreement, so our homework surrounds that.
In American Government we spent a good 20 minutes reviewing things in the news. Then I quickly went through reapportionment and redistricting in the House of Representatives. Now it was time to discuss gerrymandering. The Supreme Court case Wesberry vs. Sanders instructs the states that all districts must be approximately the same population (one-man-one-vote), compact (smallest number of counties to make that population number) and contiguous (adjoining). Everyone is supposed to play the game found at www.redistrictinggame.org. They will then send the feedback from those three games to me via email. Also don't forget that you need to have that worksheet (5-1 Section Review) completed.
In Law everyone took their 5-1 quiz. Because of my sporadic attendance ( I was again pulled out of class to teach the ACT prep course), everyone got to take the test open book and open note. The rest of the class period was used to read Chapter 5 Section 2 and complete the guided reading.
Have a great Wednesday everyone! and Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Poor Bear.
