Today we celebrated three people who have contributed a lot to the GLR School District. Sue has been here for over 30 years and her influence is beyond measure. I truly know she is irreplaceable. Gary and Dave have driven thousands of miles and kept many of us safe. I know for a fact Dave has driven in horrible weather to get my speech team either to or from a contest. I'm forever grateful for their willingness to serve in this way.
In Literature 9 we discussed the three chapters 25-27. Chapter 25 is all about the symbolism found in the book (turtle, cocoon, and roly-poly). Jem has to come to terms with the death of Tom Robinson. Chapter 26 is about the irony of the community, or maybe I should say the hypocrisy of it. The ladies of the Missionary Society are so concerned about the Mrunas of Africa and Miss Gates about the Jews persecuted by Hitler that they don't notice the persecution and struggles right within their own community. Chapter 27 is so full of foreshadowing that it's difficult to read a single paragraph without having something hit you over the head. We took our check over those three chapters and then we expert jigsawed the chapters [Each pod was assigned a chapter, then we broke into new groups and facilitated a conversation.] We also returned to our impact web and discussed Bob Ewell and Link Deas. Whew, we got a lot done!
In English 10 several students were absent for Mr. Long's field trip, but we had to move forward. We continued reviewing our study guide [I gave an answer key and people checked their answers.] Then we read the conversation between Juliet and Paris, Juliet and the Friar, and then her apology to Lord Capulet that created more upheaval. These poor kids!
In American Government there was some serious debate going on. In Fourth Hour I was afraid things might come to blows over the elimination of the penny. I am so enjoying the conversations. People aren't talking about graduation or other social things, they are sincerely discussing their bills and the impact they may or may not have on society. I really feel we had some deep conversations. The Rules Committee will meet to discuss whether a bill be granted a rule. Then the Speaker of the House(s) will determine the calendar of speaking for Monday.
In Law we reviewed the rest of the tort packet. We discussed the duty of car for the vehicular, property (invitee, licensee, and trespasser). We also discussed negligence and it speaks for itself. Tomorrow we're going to review the Section Review (pg. 81 - worth 27 points) and then take our quiz.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!
