I'm not sure what happened to my post, and then again I might not have completed one. Here's hoping my memory holds out.
In Literature 9 we started class tapping into our prior knowledge of Lincoln's assassination. It was profound the differences between this year and past years. Primarily because people had read so many books on this topic. Then we took our reading probe. This is always good to get out of the way, but now it's a great measuring stick for our reading program. We then spent the remainder of the class period working on our contract. I'm going to write our process down here so that I don't forget it for next year. 1) Fill out the title, author, and the total number of pages. 2) Then divide by 20, 25, and/or 30 days. Even if you don't think you'll need 30 days, do the math anyway. Wherever you said "yes", then multiple your daily total by 5. That is now your weekly total. If you need more then 20 days, raise your hand and get my signature. 3) The date for completion is a little broader - you need only to hit a week rather than a specific day. So if you're planning to finish in 20 days, the dates are Feb. 5-9; 25 days = February 12-16; 30 days = February 19-23. For Monday, please read the story "The Pedestrian". It's about a man who follows his own ideals and that might come back to haunt him.
English 10 we had our book tasting for 25 minutes. We then moved on to our book contracts (please read above), and then we discussed book ball. This handout is pretty self-explanatory, and everyone must have their book done. You will receive two days in class (March 5-6) to work on your book ball. On March 7, people will share their book balls with others that have similar genres.
In American Literature we took our reading probe and also worked on our book contracts (see above). Then we reviewed what we could remember about the Declaration of Independence. We will finish that up next week and move onto The Crucible.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I know that the Vikings win made the weekend that much sweeter.
