Around the nation today, schools are reeling for yet another school shooting. As I shared with most of my classes, there should be two places you feel safe - home and school. I'm sorry that this isn't the case anymore. If at ANY time you don't feel safe - tell someone. Tell someone that can do something about it. Don't dismiss it as a "joke" or "they aren't serious". Take every violent comment seriously. You might be making a difference in their lives as well as the lives of people at school.
In Literature 9 we were kind of quiet today. Since I was gone yesterday, it was a little catch-up time. First hour seemed to be hit the hardest because of the send-off. So we finished our vocabulary lesson, took our quiz, and yet had some time to read - for the most part. It was a little easier with second hour as the send-off didn't eat into their class too much. For Monday, complete the vocabulary for "Into Thin Air".
In English 10 we reviewed our mythology vocabulary and then took our test. You all do so well with this vocabulary, but how do we incorporate it into our written and speaking vocabulary. It's great to learn words, but then we need to use them. We then read for our ten minutes, and then took a few minutes to discuss our motivational speeches. You need to work on research for your speech. This is one of the longer speeches, so it isn't something that you can "wing".
In American Literature we spent a good portion of the class discussing the school shooting, and then moved onto our final review of The Crucible. Their one-pagers were absolutely mind-blowing. There were some truly wonderful presentations! We didn't get too much discussed, but we will finish up on Tuesday with our final test on Thursday.
In Law we watched the Dateline Solved Crime series that was about the murder of Bobby Jo Stinett and the death penalty case of the woman who killed her. I chose this one because it deals with jurisdiction, the appeals process, and the involvement of the Supreme Court. So gruesome though!
Enjoy your four day weekend! I know all of us need a few days to unwind.
