Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day. To all my past teachers - thank you. To my colleagues and others that are in the field of education - thank you. To my parents, my first teachers - thank you and I love you. In summation - have you hugged a teacher today?
In Literature 9 we played clean up on several activities. We returned to the impact web and filled in the town's reaction. We then spent some time on a Tone of Voice activity. This can be a really difficult skill - to read words and try to interpret their tone of voice - kind, curious, angry, etc. Hopefully we can continue to work on this. We started class with a fun seating chart idea. Everyone drew a card that had a clue to the identify of a character from the book. These clues were not obvious (I hope) and once they discerned the character, they needed to find a pod and determine a fifth clue. It was enlightening and showed the depth of their knowledge.
In English 10 we did the same seating chart activity, only with Romeo and Juliet. I like this incorporating seating chart activities with the curriculum being studied. We then completed an activity - What do I want most? It took each of the main characters and discussed the motivation behind their actions. It was clear that many of the students are thinking deeply about the characters. They are all to continue working on their phrases study guide.
In American Literature we finished up our study of Edgar Allan Poe and "The Raven". We applied the elements of an author's style to Poe. We then turned our attention to our study guide and reviewed for our unit test on Thursday. We're going to take our test on Thursday, and then we'll move onto Of Mice and Men.
In Law we shared our litigation stories. I've always believed that the stars (or God) is interested in what I'm teaching in class because on KELO last night the main story was a wrongful death suit brought against Avera Prince of Peace Nursing Home. We discussed duty of care, violation, injury, and causation. It fit right into our discussion. We then turned to our packet on Torts. We discussed vehicular duty of care and how it fits into UBER and then landowners duty of care and Air B and B. It's crazy how all this modernization is applying to our discussion of torts.
Have a great Tuesday! I hope to see many of you at Awards Night.
