I know I should go back and try to catch up on the missing blogs from Wednesday to Friday, but I think that would almost be impossible. I will try to summarize where we were and where we're going. I hope that will suffice!
Literature 9: Last Wednesday, Mr. Meester took over the class. You finished reading "Sayonara" and worked on imagery. You also looked at a few rhetorical devices (repetition, juxtaposition, parallelism, and analogies). On Thursday we continued to discuss argument, persuasion, and assertion. On Friday I only had first period, but we reviewed text structure and how it interconnects with author's purpose. We picked up there today and caught up 8th hour. We began to look at "The Gettysburg Address" and tomorrow we'll analyze it for its persuasive techniques.
English 10: Last Wednesday, Mr. Meester had everyone take a direct object assessment. Then the debaters had time to rehearse. On Thursday, Friday, and again today we debated. I have to thank Brentt for convincing me this was a good idea, because I've really enjoyed some of the debates. They have made me think, and that's always a good thing.
American Government: Last Wednesday Mr. Meester gave them a CLOSE reading assignment concerning the Electoral College. Everyone had to watch a couple of clips and then answer some questions. This was all due by the end of the period. Today was next time we had class and we finished our more formal discussion of the Electoral College. There will be a quiz on Wednesday.
In American Literature: On Thursday and Friday we reviewed, discussed, and analyzed Moby Dick. On Friday we watched a video that summarizes the events of this classic novel. We will finish it up this week and move onto the next Romantic author.
In Law we're finishing up our discussion of the federal court system. We've discussed the Supreme Court, Federal Court of Appeals, Federal District Courts, specialized courts, and how a case can get to the Supreme Court. We're in the middle of our discussion on the famous cases decided by the Supreme Court.
I hope that is enough for those of you who have missed class to figure out what we've done. Have a great Monday everyone!
