Well, Wednesday is over and the school is quiet. I like the end of the day when I can collect my thoughts and prepare for the next day. To be honest I love preparing for lessons! It's one of the things I love most about teaching.
In Literature 9 I introduced the excerpt from "Into Thin Air". We watched the trailer for the movie "Everest" and then we worked on the ten vocabulary words that accompanied the story. We changed things up a bit by completing a vocabulary crossword puzzle rather than me lecturing and talking about the words. I hope this helps with the understanding. Then we discussed the importance of monitoring your comprehension while you read. With this story, I put together such a monitor and as everyone goes along they should stop and answer a few short questions.
In English 10 we first play Kahoot to prepare for tomorrow's test over the Mythology words. Then we reviewed participle phrases. There was some confusion because of the substitute, so hopefully we have it straightened out. We completed 10 questions from a worksheet, so I should soon know if there was too much trouble. We discussed notecard requirement and the taping process for this speech. Each speaker can have five notecards - one for the introduction (20 words), one for need (40), solution (40), visualization/call to action (40 words) and a final card for the conclusion (20 words). Writing the source in brackets [source] does not count for a word. Remember you are supposed to have three sources and cite those sources within your speech.
In American Government we finished our discussion of judicial review and the court cases we started on Monday. We had some great conversation. We didn't get to spend as much time on strict or loose constructionalist, but hopefully we can get more in depth with that later. Our test is on Friday.
All in all a busy day. When haven't I had a busy day! I'm looking forward to things slowing down a bit.
