I looked at the date this morning and can not believe that September is almost over with already. Not only that, midterms for the first quarter is tomorrow! That's just crazy how fast time is flying by.
In Literature 9 we worked with our Plicker cards to review figurative language. We were averaging about 88% with some questions over 100%. I know there are still some that are questioning themselves, but everyone seems to be getting them right more often than wrong. We then went onto continue with our study of irony - specifically dramatic irony. I love reading "Six Blind Men and an Elephant." It shows so clearly how dramatic irony can be used in humorous situations.
In English 10 I tried to make a point about reading assignments as they are given. Last night an article was assigned and so many students just space it off. They were also told to take notes. So to prove my point, I gave a pop quiz, and the effects for some will be staggering. We then chose our word for our next vocabulary presentation. We rounded out the class with finding subjects and predicates.
American Literature was all about The Crucible. We got through Act I, and both classes saw a little of Act II. We're also reading a few nonfiction articles related to on-line shaming and the McCarthy scandals. I'm hoping to make a connection between this 17th Century event and today.
Have a great Thursday. Good luck to the volleyball girls tonight at West Lyon.
