What a warm day! I'm so thankful for the forethought of our past school board members when they knew eventually air conditioning would be important. I'm also so thankful for Bridget turning on my air conditioning in the morning; my room is nice and cool when I arrive in the morning.
In Literature 9 we worked on "real world" reading skills. We looked at a McDonald's application. It was pretty basic, but it was a good example of what reading is required when looking for work. We then tried a little deductive reasoning with an on-line activity. We discussed historical narratives and recent movies, such as The Blindside, or Secretariat. We put the events of "A Brother's Crime" in chronological order.
In English 10 it was assessment day. We reviewed all we learned about communication, and then we took a quiz. We reviewed the perimeters for our Past, Present, and Future speech. All speeches will be given Thursday and Friday. Everyone should practice so that they can be sure that they make the minimum 2 minutes without going over the 3 minutes. Remember that it's important to be effective and ethical speaker.
American Literature was next in the day. We discussed oral literature and the recurring theme of Native American literature. After watching a short clip of "The Lorax", we discussed the Native American poems assigned earlier.
