The start of any quarter is always so chaotic. I'm slowly getting my desk cleared, things filed, and scores updated.
In Literature 9 we've read chapters 1-7 of To Kill a Mockingbird. I think for the most part everyone is enjoying the book. I know that the reading checks look really good so far. Also I'm so proud of everyone for keeping up with their vocabulary notes. Not having vocabulary quizzes is nice for everyone. Way to keep up the bargain.
In English 10 we've read the Prologue and Scenes 1 and 2 of Romeo and Juliet. It's so fun to share this classical piece of literature with new readers. Soon they realize that they can understand more of the play than they thought. They are presently working on The Perfect Mate assignment. What a fun way to look at the differences between teenagers and parents' view of a spouse. I'm anxious to see them come in on Monday.
In American Literature we finished up Emily Dickinson. She always prompts such good discussions about life and individuality. I look forward to reading and discussing Walt Whitman as well.
In American Government we're going to be finishing up our legislative simulation. This has been such a profound success. I'm so excited I went out on the limb and gave this project a chance. Now it's on the way to our discussion of the President.
In Law we're reviewing the criminal proceedings. This too is a lot of fun to teach because it refutes some misconceptions that we have about the legal process. Often it's because of crime dramas that we think we know more than we do.
