Yesterday was a really (REALLY) long day. I was at school from 7:30 until 9:30 PM. Speech is definitely under way, but that makes me so far behind with school work, especially grading papers.
In English 10 we're still plugging away at our informative speeches. We will definitely finish by Wednesday or Thursday. Eighth hour has one less class period than first hour, and that unfortunately means there Unit test will be Thursday. Next week we'll begin our specialty speeches - a speech of introduction. Those are quick but important speeches as it has real-life application.
In American Literature we discussed Emerson and nonconformity. Be the kernel and use your talents in the life you've been given. I love teaching Emerson. I think there were several students that struggled with the check we had today, and that's because so many are not reading the assignments given. There were a lot of blank notes, and they would have been useful on the quiz. I don't want to cause people's grades to go down, but reading the material is the first step to success in American Literature. We then had our presentation on Henry David Thoreau. Both Barry and Laura did a great job, and I really like how just a few of you are taking notes on the resumes. Good job everyone.
In Literature 9 we finished our discussion of mood and suspense via Poe. We then read the biography of H.H. Munro (Saki) and took a few notes on the back of a worksheet that was distributed. Then we discussed the cause/effect structure of the story "The Interlopers". That worksheet will be due tomorrow.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
