Today seemed to go by so fast. Maybe it's just that I'm getting back into the swing of the classroom once again.
In Literature 9, we finished taking our notes over Nonfiction. I'm not a big fan of lecturing and notetaking, but sometimes that's all you can do to present information. Then we turned to the graphic novel Murder of Abraham Lincoln. We all agreed that reading Lincoln's inaugural address was dry and difficult, but when we read it again in partners (one read the bubbles and another read the boxes), it seemed easier to understand. Maybe it was because of the illustrations or the fact that the address was broken up. Everyone is to read "A Brother's Crime" for tomorrow.
In English 10 the next five vocabulary presentations were given. Then we started our persuasion notes. We didn't get too far - technology can be a bugger. I distributed the outline for the product speech, so everyone can start thinking about what to include.
In American Government we discussed the President's State of the Union Address. Then we finished our discussion of the Legislative Branch and its 17 delegated powers. We defined implied powers and how they must connect in some way to the expressed powers. We started to map out the Executive Branch, but didn't get quite done. Everyone is supposed to have a current event ready for Friday, and along with that to play a game entitled Three Branches of Government on iCivics.
All in all a great day. Soup and Pie at church - it can't get much better than that!
