Today is my daughter Kendra's birthday. I know no one reads these things anyway, but I just want to wish her a happy birthday.
In Literature 9 we started by reviewing Poe's life (reviewed yesterday's "clues", watched a video, discussed his death). Then we looked over the vocabulary words related to the story. Was Fortunato responsible for his own death? It was surprising how many thought he was responsible, until I used the metaphor of drunk driving. To blame the victim never makes sense to me. (Regardless if he was obsessed with the wine.) Everyone should work on the CLOSE activity for tomorrow when we will have a check.
In English 10 we basically spent the entire class period listening to each other's stories. Evaluations went well, except for those that had technical difficulty. It's important that when making a movie in Windows Movie Maker to save all the pictures and narration in the same folder. Also you need to save it is a a movie NOT a project. When you save it as a movie then it becomes a wmv file that can be shared and uploaded. As a project, no one can see your work.
In American Literature we started with a new seating chart. Then we updated our notebook. If people wanted to correct their quiz, they could return it to me, and come in before Thursday to correct it using notes. Then we did a locked box mystery (it worked so well with the freshmen yesterday that I thought I would try it again.) All the clues revolve around Anne Bradstreet. Again it worked wonderfully. I didn't lecture on her life, they had to use problem solution skills to figure out how the objects fit, and then explain their thought process. Great strategy. Finally we reviewed her poem "To My Dear and Loving Husband" and applied poetic terms to it (lyric, iambic, meter, foot, rhyme scheme, and couplet.) Thank you Shakespeare! We will review for our vocabulary test on Thursday with the test on Friday.
Have a great Tuesday everyone - despite the rain!
