Well, by the looks of things I lost an entire week. I'll try my best to get caught up.
Literature 9: We've been studying Rhetorical Devices. From Friday until today we've looked at JFK's inauguration speech and identified the rhetorical devices he used. We listened to the speech as well as identified the various persuasive techniques (Q4E'sR). Then with the substitute you looked at the graduation speech by Anna Quindelin. You looked at her assertion - stop putting pressure on yourself to be perfect. Today we finished that story up and reviewed. Tomorrow will be your unit test.
English 10: It's been a combination of grammar and Shakespeare (which I think he would enjoy as well!). You took a quiz over direct and indirect objects on Tuesday. Then you reviewed Shakespeare's World and listened to a TED talk. Today we reviewed the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet. We discussed iambic pentameter and basically translated the first 14 lines. We will finish that up and move onto the play itself next week. Everyone has a Globe Virtual Tour to take.
In American Literature we finished up Melville, looked up some basic information about Edgar Allan Poe (biography.com). Then Of Mice and Men was distributed and the first chapter assigned. Today we reviewed that first chapter, took a reading check, and looked over a few worksheets to finish with Chapter 1. For next week it's all about the novel. Read Chapter 2 and completed the assignments.
In American Government this week it's been all about the Cabinet. Everyone was assigned a Cabinet position and they were to make a slide for a massive Google presentation. Then using those slides, they filled in a sort-of scavenger hunt. They were then to identify one program or issue that needs to be dealt with in the budget related to that Cabinet position. Those presentations will be tomorrow. Chapter 8-4 Guided Reading covering the EOP was also assigned.
In Law they spent time watching a 48 Hours episode, and from what I can gather, it freaked them out a bit. Then Mr. Range reviewed the various Iowa Court systems. I also reviewed it with them today (Thursday). Chapter 4 Review (pg. 68-69) was assigned and it looked like they were ready for it today. Tomorrow we will review and the test will be Monday.
Thanks again for your patience. This week was not what I had planned at all. It's so good to be back!
