This week was crazy busy - ITED's, music contests - tomorrow, and Spring Fever hitting everyone, even the teacher. It's hard to believe we have only 30 or so days left in the school year.
In Literature 9 (5th Hour) we discussed the definition of "Fine Folks" and how Alexandra looked at it (how long they've lived on a piece of land) and Scout's definition (using common sense). We then compared and contrasted Alexandra and Atticus, after all they are siblings. It's easy to contrast them, but maybe looking at their similarities helps us to get into their characters even more. They are similar in that they both want what's best for the children. We discussed that Atticus says that the "summer is going to be a hot one". What does the temperature have to do with Alexandra's visit? What Atticus is really referring to is that the summer is going to be heated, violent, scary, and Alexandra is there to "protect" the kids. We eventually took our reading check. Unfortunately several of us didn't have our vocabulary completed, so we'll have to complete a lesson. Hopefully this won't be something we'll have to continue, but the agreement was to have the words defined and synonyms identified. For Monday read Chapter 14, and then we'll stop for a day to catch both classes up and our summaries, worksheets, and other skills.
In English 10 we discussed qualities that we think the character of Friar Lawrence should have - after all he's a priest. We then shared our answers over the Appositive Worksheet. Turning to our Act II Questions, we reviewed the key events and quotes from Scene 2. Then to verify we're on the right page, we took a check. Finally we started, but didn't get too far with Friar Lawrence's soliloquy.
In American Literature, which we had for only 10 minutes, we reviewed the events from the first part of The Scarlet Letter and then took a reading check. We'll hopefully finish the story on Tuesday with a quiz on Thursday. That's my goal, we'll see how that goes.
No Law today because of ITED's.
This weekend is supposed to be in the 80's and little wind. Go out and enjoy Mother Nature. Have a great weekend!
