Veteran's Day. This is a day we need to remember those that sign up to fall down for us. I have always had a very soft spot in my heart for veterans. Maybe it's because I know that their sacrifice is something I don't think I could do. However, I'm a good rule-follower, so maybe the military would have been a place for me.
In Literature 9 we finished our discussion of "The Scarlet Ibis". We worked with our expand the vocabulary, took a reading check, and then compared and contrasted Doodle and his brother (the narrator). We also analyzed the symbols that appeared at the end of the story. Those symbols are really indications that we should haven't been surprised when Doodle died. I really enjoy teaching Literature 9 when I have as great of kids as I do.
In English 10 it's all about the personal experience speech. I tried to warn them that I could tell when there was "winging" going on, but a few speakers tried to do it anyway. It may work for this speech, but the next couple will need research and preparation. Fortunately most of the speakers were really prepared. I'm not going to say that they enjoy giving speeches, but that they understand the importance of rehearsal.
Third period American Government didn't meet due to the Veteran's Day program. We will have to catch them up next week. I was hoping to finish this unit next week, but it might be a challenge. In fourth hour we managed to discuss all the qualities of capitalism and the regulation that occurs in this country. It will take some interesting juggling to get done with it by next week.
I'm so looking forward to my weekend with my girls and my grandkids. I hope everyone else has the opportunity to be with those they love. See you Monday!
