I just heard a student say that this week went by quickly, and I have to admit, I agree. Even though most of this week was painful (yes my back is better but not 100%), it was also about some good old-fashioned learning.
In Literature 9 we had several book talks today in the fifth-period class. We finished up our dramatic irony portion in the first hour, so it kind of offset. We spent about 10 minutes creating a mannequin challenge representation for the story "The Leap." I had some costumes and other props set aside to represent one of the four plots. I then gave each group five minutes to set up their scene, and then we filmed. It was chaotic, yet fun. For homework, everyone is supposed to look up the vocabulary words for "The Leap."
In English 10 we reviewed the propaganda techniques as they related to some Iowa political ads. Then the class was divided into teams of three and asked to look at stations related to propaganda. We will finish this up on Monday. We will be having our unit test sometime next week.
In American Government, we spent over 15 minutes discussing the events in the news. Then we discussed very briefly the differences between developed, developing, and underdeveloped countries. We looked at a list compiled by the IMF, and noticed some peculiarities. Then I distributed a worksheet called A Country Comparison. Using the CIA World Factbook website, everyone began filling out the chart, which is due for Monday.
Have a great weekend everyone. I hope we can have a few dry days!
