I don't know if anyone noticed, but today is the 15th day of September in the year of 2015. It is also the 15th day of school. That's pretty neat!
In Literature 9 the groups worked on preparing their Ship-Trap Island maps. I was so impressed at the cooperation between the groups, the discussion of literature, and the creative process. It was awesome for this "old" teacher.
In English 10 we're working on those conversations needed in our lives - like renting an apartment. The students had three scenarios (apartments). They worked on what questions to ask in order to get the right information. Then we took notes on the Listening Process (pg. 10 ) in their notebook. Everyone is supposed to work on points two and three of their outline.
In American Literature we reviewed a few poetic terms (lyric, rhyme scheme, couplet, iambic, meter, foot). We then went to the old commons and played a vocabulary game (Roll On! Vocabulary). It was so fun to watch people "act" out the vocabulary. We will continue to work with the vocabulary so we're prepared for the reading as it appears. Then we returned to the classroom and talked about Anne Bradstreet.
All in all a great day! I'm digging this "teaching like a Pirate" methods. I hope I can keep it up!
